Standard Treatment Protocol

First, completely identify the injured area to be treated.    Determining The Treatment Area

The Shark Fin “standard protocol” is to treat the muscle along its length. There should only be 12 strokes on any one muscle per treatment.  Lotion should used on the muscle to reduce friction between the skin and The Shark Fin.

Watch the video below for general instructions for use of The Shark Fin. Instructional treatment videos are also available for each condition to be treated.

It is beneficial to work on the muscle with an active range of motion.  This is done by shortening the muscle, contacting the intended muscle with The Shark Fin, and actively lengthening the muscle again while applying pressure.  The Shark Fin should be held at a 15 to 30 degree angle.   Apply enough pressure to feel the texture of the scar tissue under the skin.  Aside from feeling tender, the affected tissue will feel bumpy and rough (like gravel).  Treatment should be performed twice daily.

What to Expect

After treatment, the muscles may feel sore and/or tender to the touch.  If proper force is applied, bruising should be minimal.  If bruising does occur, use less force.  Also be aware that the areas being treated are usually hypersensitive to touch, so a relatively small amount of pressure may cause a greater level of pain than expected.
